BATON ROUGE, La. — An 11-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department has resigned after he was arrested for battery.
WBRZ-TV reported Friday that 49-year-old Cpl. Mitchell Duncan was arrested Thursday night for breaking into the home of a former girlfriend twice and assaulting her after jimmying a lock to get into the residence.
Police spokesman Sgt. Don Stone says Duncan committed the alleged crimes Wednesday while on-duty and in full uniform.
Since his arrest, Duncan has resigned from the force.
Duncan was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, two counts of simple battery and one count of malfeasance in office. He was held on $12,500 bond.

He was not charged with burglary because he did not steal anything. He was charged with 2 counts of unauthorized entry. That is what he did. They are felonies and he got an additional charge of malfeasance in office. He was charged exactly as he should have been.
