[Excerpts] A Miami-Dade police officer is accused of verbally and physically fighting with a woman, at one point allegedly dragging her by her hair, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Reinaldo Ruiz is charged with domestic aggravated assault and domestic battery... Ruiz has been relieved of duty with pay and Miami-Dade police are monitoring the case, police spokesman Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said... Ruiz got upset when the woman refused to hold his hand... He then forced her to take a cab home from the AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami to Broward. When she arrived, Ruiz yelled and refused to let her in. He pulled a semi-automatic gun from the trunk of his police car, racked a round and paced back and forth with it in front of her, the woman said. He kept the barrel pointed at the ground. After 10 minutes of pleading with him, he let her go inside and put the gun back in the car, the woman said. But as she tried to pack, Ruiz dumped the bag on the floor. When she twice tried to call 911, he knocked the phone out of her hand each time, the woman said. He then grabbed her by her hair, and she fell to the marble floor. “She said he dragged her by her hair from the bedroom closet to the foyer area near the front door,” the affidavit said, hurting the woman’s neck, legs and back. The affidavit added, “She said he then let her go when he could not drag her through the front door.” The woman ran back to the closet, grabbed her phone and called her mother. Ruiz went to the closet, grabbed an AR-15 rifle and held it, barrel pointed at the ground, while yelling at her, the woman told deputies. He left after about five minutes and came back without the rifle, she said. Her brother arrived and Ruiz shoved the woman out the front door. The affidavit said pictures were taken of the woman’s injuries. The detective also wrote that the woman’s brother spoke about what he saw. Deputies tried to contact Ruiz, the affidavit said, but could not enter due to a gate around the home. [Full article here]
