[Excerpts] Jimmy Dac Ho had big dreams. He went to school to become a pastor and dreamed of working for the U.S. Secret Service or the FBI. Instead, he ended up a Florida Atlantic University police officer with a long list of reprimands for hitting on women who later reported that his behavior was "eerie"... In January, Ho's dwindling dream became a nightmare after he allegedly shot an escort [Sheri Carter] and left her for dead. ...After unsuccessful bids to join the Secret Service and FBI, Ho landed a job as an officer with the Lauderhill Police Department in Broward County in 1995. But problems began as early as April 1995... In April 2004, Ho's then-wife, Wendy, filed a domestic violence complaint accusing him of slamming a refrigerator door on her arm because she was "ignoring him." She also alleged other incidents, both verbal and physical. Now known as Wendy Fuller Burt, she moved to Texas with their two children sometime after their 2005 divorce. She declined to comment for this story. Ho, who was by then a Broward County sheriff's deputy, was fired in the summer of 2004 for "conduct unbecoming an employee." He subsequently applied for jobs at 11 law enforcement agencies in Texas and Florida. Seven disqualified him because of his employment history. In 2006, however, the FAU Police Department chose Ho over three other candidates because of experience...
