LORAIN - A Lorain police officer placed on paid medical leave in August in the wake of a reported suicide threat has returned to work. Corey Earl, 45, was placed on light duty Oct. 8 after doctors provided Lorain police Chief Cel Rivera with a letter saying he was fit for work... Rivera is still not allowing Earl to carry a duty weapon, but could return the 17-year veteran officer to the streets with a weapon if he passes an INDEPENDENT “fit for duty” exam and is exonerated in Oberlin Municipal Court of a charge of violating a civil protection order that his estranged wife, Laura Earl, requested against him...
“HE HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL COPS, SO WE’RE ANXIOUS TO GET HIM BACK,” RIVERA SAID.
“OUR
GOAL IS TO GET HIM BACK WHOLE AGAIN AND MAKE SURE HE GETS THE HELP HE NEEDS.”
[What about Laura?]
...Earl’s wife of 23 years obtained the protection order after she said Corey Earl went to the Amherst home they once shared [entered HER house, SCARY, in the middle of the night - waking to him armed, over her bed]. She told police he was armed with a handgun and threatened to kill himself [while holing her up in the bathroom and insisting that she WATCH HIM DO IT].
...The protection order also barred Earl from carrying a weapon, but the order was dropped in an agreement he and his wife reached in court late last month, which means Earl can now have a firearm... [WHO will ask what PRESSURE there is on LAURA when the police CHIEF is "ANXIOUS" to get him back? WHO will ask, "WHO can Laura turn to?"]
